Sponsoring Students in Senegal

Tiny&Great is sponsoring elementary school students in Senegal and we need your help!

Tiny&Great is a non-profit organization that was founded to reduce the opportunity gap by promoting access to educational enrichment opportunities for marginalized students of color. We currently operate in the US and Nigeria, providing introductory computer programming courses and mental health workshops, among other things. This year, we have an opportunity to expand Tiny and Great’s reach to Senegal by sponsoring a number of students to continue their education at École du Dialaw, a primary school in Ndayane, Senegal.

École du Dialaw provides Montessori-based education to elementary school students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. As such, they have a sponsorship program for students whose families would not otherwise be able to afford education. Around half of their 80 students benefit from this program, however, in the aftermath of the pandemic, many sponsoring individuals and organizations have had to cut down on the number of students they sponsor this year. As a result, 13 previously sponsored students have lost their sponsorships for the upcoming school year beginning in October. However, the school has been able to replace the sponsors for 10 of these students, leaving 3 still unsponsored.

To help raise the necessary funds, we will be holding a bake sale at Pierrepont School this Wednesday, September 29!

Our goal for this initial campaign will be to raise sufficient funds for the remaining 3 previously sponsored students to continue their education for at least one more year. Not only is this a tangible way for us, as a community, to impact the lives of students less privileged than we are, but it is also extremely achievable. The total amount needed to sponsor the remaining students is 1,665 euros or 1,965 USD, 555 euros being the cost of providing a full year of education to a student at École du Dialaw. Any additional funds collected will go to support the school as a whole and/or continuing to sponsor students next Fall.
